Convert QUAD into economic NATO and deliver a jolt to China, analysts

Washington – The QUAD organisation of the United States, India, Japan and Australia needs to take steps in the right direction to stop expansionist China. Jianli Yang, a former officer in the Chinese military, said that if QUAD is converted into an economic NATO, meaning an organisation strong on the economic front, its influence will increase tremendously. Yang expressed confidence in a newspaper article that China can be stopped through a solid economic organisation.

Jianli Yang, who has taken asylum in the United States, is believed to be a strong critic of China. Jianli Yang gave some important advice to the QUAD in an article, written jointly by him with Aaron Rhodes, President of Forum for Religious Freedom, for a western newspaper. India, the United States, Japan and Australia have joined hands to form the QUAD cooperation. China is sceptical about the QUAD cooperation. But currently, the QUAD is an unofficial organisation and is not fully active.

Preparations have been completed to convert QUAD into QUAD Plus, and it is claimed that Vietnam, South Korea and New Zealand may be included. This has disturbed China further, and China is making desperate efforts to ensure that no other countries join the organisation. Jianli Yang drew attention to this. Yang claimed that China is expressing special sensitivity towards the countries from South Asia, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and the Korean sector joining the QUAD cooperation.

A few days ago, China threatened Bangladesh of facing the consequences if it decided to join QUAD. Therefore, the inference drawn by Yang and Rhodes is absolutely correct. Along with stopping the expansion of QUAD, China is also making systematic efforts to try and create discord between the two prominent QUAD members, India and the United States. Jianli and Rhodes pointed out that the Chinese mouthpiece, The Global Times, highlighted the news that the United States stopped supplying vaccine raw material while the Coronavirus pandemic was ravaging India.

In this scenario, it becomes mandatory to take steps in the right direction to make the organisation stronger and more influential. Jianli and Rhodes have advised in their article that the QUAD countries should create an economically strong organisation like NATO. After the China-Australia relations festered, China imposed sanctions against Australia. There seems to be a war going on between the two countries on the economic level. Jianli and Rhodes have advised in the article that in this scenario, economic cooperation from QUAD will prove valuable and will deliver a major jolt to China.
