Large-scale ‘Kill the bill’ protests take place in UK

London: Demonstrations have been held in more than 40 locations in the UK to protest the increase in police powers, anti-crime laws and other issues. They were held as part of Kill the Bill protests, which demonstrators criticised were against the authoritarian Johnson government. On the other hand, people supporting the government have alleged that some groups have staged demonstrations to create anarchy and destabilise the country.

A bill to increase police powers has been introduced in the UK Parliament. The UK Parliament will also discuss toughening the country’s anti-crime laws. Also, the Johnson government says some groups are working to tear the UK apart and that the legislation is necessary to stop them. The UK government claims it will help establish law and order in the country.

However, protesting groups and their leaders say that if the law is passed, they will lose their freedom of expression. Demonstrations are therefore being held in various cities across Britain on Saturday to protest the law. According to UK media reports, about 5,000 protesters had gathered in London’s Trafalgar Square. Reports reveal the London Police took action against the protesters. Similar protests were held in the UK last month as well.
