Tehran – It is claimed that the US-Iran negotiations, being held in Vienna, regarding the nuclear deal are dragging on. Amid this, Iran made a major announcement regarding its enriched Uranium stocks. The Rouhani government in Iran announced that Iran has a stock of 6.5 kilograms of 60% purity and 108 kilograms of 20% purity, of enriched Uranium. Iran claimed that the target was achieved before the deadline prescribed by the Iranian Parliament. The Israeli media are warning that Iran is getting closer to the atom bomb, quoting these claims.

Rabei said ‘As per the instructions of the Iranian Parliament, the Iran Atomic Energy Commission was to create a stock of 120 kilograms of enriched Uranium with 20% purity. Whereas, Iran has succeeded in developing 6.5 kilograms of enriched Uranium with 60% purity, in less than the allotted time.’

The international Atomic Energy Agency, had published the enriched Uranium stocks held by Iran, as on 22nd May, in the report published last month. As per the report, Iran had 62.8 kilograms of enriched Uranium of 20% purity and 2.4 kilograms of 60% purity.

The blast, in the month of April, in the basement of the Natanz nuclear project had caused major damages to the centrifuges in the project. This also affected the Iranian nuclear program, to an extent. As per the Israeli media, otherwise Iran would have more stocks of enriched Uranium. Iran had held Iran responsible for the blast and had accused of nuclear terrorism.

Meanwhile, looking at the numbers published by the Rouhani government, Iran has apparently enriched Uranium at a very rapid pace. It is claimed that this Iranian announcement is a violation of the 2015 nuclear deal. As per the agreement signed by the then US President Barack Obama, with Iran, Iran was supposed to maintain the purity of enriched Uranium at 3.6%. At the same time, it was also agreed that Iran will not hold stocks more than 202.8 kilograms of enriched Uranium. But looking at the speed of the Iranian nuclear program, Iran can certainly cross these limits in the next few months. In that scenario, as claimed by the Israeli media, Iran will be very close to making an atomic bomb.
