Berlin: – It has been exposed that Klaus Lange, renowned analyst and former German spy, was carrying out espionage activities for China. German agencies have levelled serious charges against Lange. The German agencies have accused Lange of compromising national security by sharing ultrasensitive information regarding Germany with China. Before this, people have been arrested on espionage charges, even in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and India. This has brought the issue of Chinese espionage activities and interference in other countries on the anvil again.
As per the information given by the German agencies, Klaus Lange worked for the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) for 50 years and an intelligence agent. After retiring from the office, he served as a political analyst in a think tank since 2010. It is claimed that this think tank is linked with the Christian Social Union party of former Chancellor Angela Merkel. The German agencies have accused that Lange started working as a double agent for China during his tenure at the think tank. In 2010, Lange had visited China for a lecture at Tongji University in Shanghai. The Chinese intelligence agency recruited him as a double agent at that time. After that, Lange worked as a double agent for the Chinese intelligence agency disguised analyst till September 2019.
Lange supplied information regarding German security to the Chinese agencies during these ten years. Lange confessed to using his contact in the German political circles to extract this information. At the same time, it is unclear what losses were incurred by Germany due to the leaked information. Also, for what was the information used. But the Lange confession exposes the Chinese infiltration into the German agencies.
Reports of infiltration of the Chinese intelligence and military into other countries’ political, military, and educational systems are being received since the last few months. China has been exposed to double agents even in the US intelligence and military, just like Germany. Whereas the British intelligence service MI5 swiftly removed three journalists spying for China. It has also been reported that a journalist spying for China has been detained even in India.
Moreover, accusations have been levelled that there are Chinese spies in the students enrolled in the universities in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. It was reported that these include children of Chinese leaders and military officials. With these reports of the Chinese activities and interference in other countries surfacing consistently, the entire world is looking at China with suspicion.
