A senior US official accuses China of trying to isolate Australia from western countries

Washington/Canberra/Beijing: – Curt Campbell, the US coordinator for Indo-Pacific, accused ‘The United States feels that China is trying to separate Australia from the group of like-minded western countries. The objective is to see what effects this has on Australia and the change in the Australian outlook.’ At this time, Campbell assured that despite any efforts by China, the United States would never allow Australia to be isolated. A reaction has been received from China over the statements made by Campbell; the Chinese foreign ministry said that China does not interfere in the internal matters of any other country.

China is known as the largest trading partner of Australia. In 2019, China had a share of a whopping 29% in the total Australian trade. But the relations between the two countries have started festering fast in the last two years. China has increased its influence in many Australian sectors and is attempting interference on that basis. Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his government have initiated a spate of aggressive decisions to stop this Chinese interference. Many bills have been passed in the Australian Parliament against China, clearly mentioning the Chinese threat. China has become highly restless because of the government activities of Prime Minister Scott Morrison and is making frantic efforts to pressure Australia using its economic and trade might.

Although China has disputes with many other countries, it is apparent that it is more aggressively targeting Australia. While presenting his stand on this issue, Campbell accused that the Chinese motives behind this are different. But Campbell clarified that the Chinese actions are backfiring; instead, bringing Australia and the United States closer. The US official ascertained that Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and US President Joe Biden have common objectives. Mentioning the initiative taken by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison for the QUAD cooperation, Campbell claimed that his efforts led to the United States providing impetus to the activities in the Pacific and Asian regions. Against the background of the statements made by Campbell, Australian Finance Minister also adopted an aggressive stand regarding the ties with China.

Finance Minister Josh Frydenberg asserted that Australia will always prioritise national interests while thinking about relations with China. At the same time, he claimed that the Chinese investments in Australia are not only on the financial level but also have strategic objectives. At this time, Frydenberg confessed that the relations between the two countries are not the same as in the past.
