Prime Minister Modi holds virtual talks with President Biden  

New Delhi/Washington: – US President Joe Biden had given the slogan ‘Democracies can deliver’ at the beginning of his tenure. Reminding of that, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined the importance of the cooperation between the oldest and the largest democracies in the world during the virtual talks with US President Joe Biden. Prime Minister Modi also thanked President Biden for the initiative to hold virtual talks before the Two-Plus-Two talks between the two countries.

Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be holding Two-Plus-Two talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin. Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that the Two-Plus-Two talks would gain further impetus due to the talks between the two countries’ leaders. Prime Minister Modi cited the meeting with President Biden in September last year. At this time, President Biden had expressed confidence that both the democracies could jointly resolve the global problems. Prime Minister Modi reminded of this.   

Prime Minister Modi pointed out, ‘Currently, a fierce war is being fought in Ukraine and more than 20,000 Indians were trapped in the country. There was a large number of students among them. I had held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin for allowing a safe passage for them. During the talks, I had requested both the leaders to resolve the issue through negotiations and suggested that the issues be resolved through talks.’  

Moreover, India had denounced the Bucha massacre in strong words. Detailed deliberations had been done on the Ukraine war in the Indian Parliament. During his talks with President Biden, Prime Minister Modi clarified that the Indian Parliament had expressed confidence that talks could resolve the issues. At the same time, During the talks, Prime Minister Modi gave an account of the humanitarian aid provided by India to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Biden and his colleagues in the administration are criticising that India is not willing to take a firm stand on the Ukraine war issue. The Biden administration is consistently criticising that India avoids taking a stand against Russia. But Prime Minister Modi pointed out during the talks that the Indian non-aligned stand results from well-defined Indian foreign policies.
