United Nations establishes formal relations with Taliban

United Nations: The human rights of Taliban in Afghanistan are being trampled under feet. The UNHRC has constantly accused Afghan women and girls of being deprived of their educational rights.

United Nations establishes formal relations with TalibanThus, the UNSC has established relations with the Taliban in Afghanistan for a year in such a situation. Even though it refrained from mentioning directly, news has surfaced that the United Nations has established formal cooperation with the Taliban.

Last year, in August, Taliban captured Afghan capital, Kabul. Following that, Taliban established its regime in Afghanistan. Besides, Taliban had claimed that its regime is comprehensive and demanded its recognition internationally. But, the international community cited the Doha agreement and reminded Taliban that its regime is non-comprehensive. The West also slammed the Taliban for sanctioning women and girls immediately after assuming the reigns and said it was unacceptable.

Moreover, ever since the Taliban regime has come to rule, Afghanistan has been facing famine gravely. Thus, the United Nations appealed that the civilians there urgently require humanitarian aid.

In this span, Taliban leaders and commanders visited Norway and held talks with European nations to make Taliban regime acceptable.

At the UNSC meeting on Thursday, Norway proposed to establish formal relations with Taliban for a year. 14 of the 15 UNSC nations voted in favour of this proposal. However, Russia has adopted an adamant stance on it. After this, the United Nations declared establishing formal relations with Taliban for a year.
