India must prepare to progress in Artificial Intelligence – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

India does not want to rule the world, India looks at the world as a huge family. Nevertheless, the country should make rapid progress in the field of Artificial Intelligence. As a result, no other country will even think of dominating India on the strength of this technology,’ Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said. The Defence Minister was addressing a symposium on ‘Artificial Intelligence in Defence – AIDA’ organised by the Ministry of Defence at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day, 75 products based on artificial intelligence related to the field of defence were presented. On this occasion, the Defence Minister underlined the importance of Artificial Intelligence. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin, a country leading in the field of AI.

‘India will have to enhance its capabilities to such a level that no other country should even think of using this technology against India. But India intends to use the AI technology for constructive purposes and not for destruction. India does not intend to dominate anyone using AI technology. The Indian objective is to use AI technology for betterment of human life,’ Rajnath Singh further said. Whenever new technologies are invented, changes take place and it is necessary to take these changes very seriously. Considering the immense changes brought about by AI technology, this will raise new questions at the legal, political, moral and economic levels. The defence minister has warned that we should prepare to face those questions from now on. The defence minister also pointed out that it takes time for the society to adapt to new technologies.

AI is causing major changes in the defence sector. The training of soldiers can be carried out in better ways using AI. At the same time, the capability of destroying enemy locations without any external control can be developed using AI. The defence equipment can be used more effectively using AI. Saying that the use of AI in this sector will keep on increasing, the defence minister pointed to the increasing influence of AI.

India has started using AI for unmanned airplanes. But India has to make more progress in this area. This will help India develop an independent weapon system. Use of AI and Big Data has to be started in time in the defence sector. The defence minister said that this will ensure that the country is not left behind in the field of technology.
