Indian MEA Jaishankar holds talks regarding Afghanistan and Myanmar with EU foreign policy chief   

New Delhi: – Indian MEA S Jaishankar held telephonic discussions with Josep Borrell, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union (EU). It is said that the issues of strategic cooperation between India and the EU, alongside the developments in Afghanistan and Myanmar, were at the forefront of the discussions. The Presidentship of the EU has come to France and France has announced that it will make positive contributions for cooperation between the EU and India. Reports of these claims made by France have also been published, along with the discussions between Jaishankar and Borrell.

Negotiations for a free trade agreement have started between the EU and India. Against this background, MEA Jaishankar informed that bilateral trade issues, investment, communication facilities, actions against climate change and cooperation on the strategic level were featured in the discussions. Jaishankar added that the issues regarding Afghanistan and Myanmar, a cause for concern for the entire world, were also discussed with Borrell. In the last five days, MEA Jaishankar has held telephonic discussions with the Foreign Ministers of the European countries France, Poland, Sweden, Hungary, Portugal and Netherlands.   

Whereas, along with the Latin American countries Brazil and Argentina, MEA Jaishankar also held talks with Foreign Ministers of Asian countries Japan and Sri Lanka. At the beginning of the year, discussions had been held with the Foreign Ministers of the United States and Russia, followed by Foreign Ministers Australia, Indonesia, Maldives and Bhutan. But the discussions with Josep Borrell, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the EU, is drawing attention. Meanwhile, Emmanuel Lenin, the French Ambassador to India, said that France would use its position as the President of the European Union to take the cooperation between India and the EU to new heights.   

European countries Sweden and Italy are supplying weapons to Pakistan. India has appealed to France to stop this cooperation and concerns are being expressed in Pakistan that the Indian appeal is getting a positive response from France.
