Chinese team reaches Afghanistan to source Lithium

Kabul/Beijing – A team comprising members of five Chinese companies has reached Afghanistan in search of rare earth minerals worth trillions of dollars. This was reported by China’s official mouthpiece, the Global Times. International analysts have warned that China is trying to find lithium reserves, one of the rarest minerals.

China, Lithium, Afghanistan, Rare Earth Minerals, NATO,China had rushed in with aid to support the Taliban as soon as they took over Afghanistan. In addition to providing financial support, China is meddling to get the Taliban recognised by the international community. China has been accused of conspiring to gain control over Afghanistan post the withdrawal of the US and NATO. China has its eyes on the rare mineral resources in Afghanistan worth nearly two trillion dollars.

The Chinese government has sent a team comprising members of five big companies to Afghanistan with special visas. The delegation arrived in Afghanistan in early November. A Chinese government mouthpiece did not provide further details of the visit. However, the lack of security, stability, falling economy, and infrastructure in Afghanistan is a concern for Chinese companies.

A decade ago, US intelligence claimed that Afghanistan was a Lithium-rich Saudi Arabia. Analysts allege that China is eying lithium stockpiles in Afghanistan, used in products ranging from microchips to electric cars. Analysts have accused Pakistan of helping China get these reserves.
