ISRO launches communication satellite 

Sriharikota: – Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched CMS-01 communication satellite on Thursday. This is the second ISRO mission during the Coronavirus period. This satellite will replace the GSAT-2 communication satellite launched 11 years ago. This will strengthen the telecommunications further. This satellite will play an essential role in making the C-band services available in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.

ISRO successfully launched the CMS-01 satellite onboard the PSLV-C50 rocket. CMS-01 is the 42nd communication satellite launched by ISRO. This is the 52nd space mission of the PSLV rocket. The satellite was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 3.40 in the afternoon.   

ISRO Chief K. Sivan informed that CMS-01 has been established in the earth orbit and is functioning normally. He congratulated the scientist on this achievement. This satellite will prove vital for the expansion of C-band services in the country. ISRO informed that this satellite will become operational in the next month and will continue to operate for the next seven years. Before this, ISRO launched the Earth Observation Satellite (EOS-01) on the 7th of November. EOS-01 is capable of taking high-resolution photographs in any weather conditions. Therefore, this satellite is critical from the military surveillance point of view. Some of the ISRO missions had been postponed due to the Coronavirus crisis. These include Mission Chandrayaan-03, Mission Aditya L-1 and Gaganyaan and it is said that further information regarding these missions will be released soon.
