Moreover, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary is celebrated as Parakram Diwas. The island, which is part of Andaman and was earlier known as Ross Island, was named after Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. On the occasion of Netaji’s 126th birth anniversary, a grand memorial of Netaji has been erected on this island. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the memorial on Monday. Also, 21 islands which are part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, have been named after the Param Vir Chakra awardees at the ceremony. India is said to be the first country in the world to take such a decision.

These islands were not given any name in the past and had the imprint of the country’s colonial past. But now these islands have been named after Param Vir Chakra winners and the imprint of slavery on these islands has been erased, PM Modi said on occasion. The Prime Minister further said that the naming has the message of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’. Also, the Prime Minister expressed his belief that the message of the extraordinary bravery and valour of the Indian Army will be conveyed through this.

Meanwhile, India’s possession of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Indian Ocean region is very important regarding the country’s security and maritime interests. China, which wants to challenge India, is watching this closely. Therefore, strategic analysts say that India should use these islands more effectively for its security. In such a situation, India has issued a strong warning to a country like China by naming 21 islands after Param Vir Chakra awardees.
