12 Myanmar citizens arrested in the Coast Guard action near Andaman and Nicobar Islands

New Delhi: The Indian Coast Guard chased and arrested a suspicious boat, near the Andaman-Nicobar Islands. There were 12 fishermen from Myanmar on the boat. All these were illegally fishing in the Indian marine limits. They have been handed over to the Pot Blaire police and they are being thoroughly interrogated.

They noticed some suspicious movements near the Rutland island of Andaman-Nicobar. They tried to contact the boat through high frequency radio. But the people on the boat did not respond. On tipping the Coast Guard off, the marine surveillance aircraft and the vessel Rajkiran of the Coast Guard started tracing the boat. The boat was detained near the Andaman-Nicobar Islands, within the Indian marine limits.

These are all Myanmar citizens and the Coast Guard informed that 60 kilograms of ‘Sea Cucumber’ in their possession was seized. This is suspected to be a matter of illegal infiltration of the Rohingya. Therefore, detailed investigation is being carried out in the matter.
