Ex-US officials accuse Biden of trying to weaken the China Policy for US

Washington/Beijing: – A former US defence official accused that the Biden administration is trying to weaken the strong policies of the United States, formulated by former President Donald Trump, against China. In his article written for a Taiwanese newspaper, Joseph Bosco, referred to the decisions regarding Chinese companies and Taiwan while accusing the Biden administration. Bosco has served as director of the China-related desk in the defence department.

In his article written for the daily, ‘Taipei Times’, Bosco has mentioned that initially, the Biden administration took some aggressive decisions against China. However, Bosco pointed out that thereafter, the stand of the Biden administration against China is seen to be becoming moderate over the last few days. Senior US official Bert Campbell had said that the policy regarding Taiwan is not completely clear. Japan, a strong US ally in the Indo-Pacific sector, also had refused to give a firm assurance regarding Taiwan’s security. Bosco accused that this Japanese stand is a result of the moderate stand adopted by the Biden administration.

The former official has also fired a salvo of criticism at the policies of the Biden administration regarding the Chinese companies linked to the Chinese military. In the last three months, two Chinese companies linked to the Chinese army have emerged victorious in the legal battle in the United States. These two companies are Xiaomi and Luokung Technology Corporation. The Biden administration claimed that it could not produce credible evidence in the court, as the Trump administration initiated the action haphazardly. But, in his article, Bosco has levelled a serious accusation that the US defence department did not present its side with the required conviction in both cases.

The new decision of the Biden administration only endorses the accusations levelled by the former US official. The Biden administration is reviewing the Black List of Chinese companies, prepared during the times of the Trump administration. Trump had blacklisted nearly 31 Chinese companies and had banned them from the US stock markets. However, from the sources in the United States, indications are being received that these companies will be removed from the blacklist and will be made to pay fines.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of the treasury, Janet Yellen, held discussions with Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Liu He via videoconferencing. It is said that discussions regarding economic and trade cooperation were held during the meeting. Furthermore, media have reported that last week, US trade representative Katherine Tai also held discussions with the Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Liu He. Therefore, the accusations that the Biden administration is adopting policies favouring China are receiving the further endorsement.

There is tremendous resentment against China, responsible for spreading the Coronavirus pandemic that claimed 3.5 million lives worldwide. More than 600,000 lives were lost in the United States alone. In this scenario, a distorted image of President Biden taking decisions favouring China instead of adopting an aggressive stand against it is visible. The Biden administration may have to pay a heavy price for this.
