China tests anti-ballistic missile after US-Russia extend New START Treaty

Beijing: – China has tested a mid-course anti-ballistic missile. The Chinese defence department said that this has made it easy to neutralise intercontinental ballistic missiles. China has said that this test was not against any country. But the US media claimed that this test could be useful for enhancing the powers of the anti-satellite missiles. The US media is also pointing out that China has conducted this test following the signing of the New START by the United States and Russia.

Chinese mouthpiece Global Times published the information regarding the testing of the mid-course anti-ballistic missile. The Chinese mouthpiece said that China tested this missile system inside its own borders and satisfied all the necessary criteria. China has clarified that the test was done with a defensive intent and was not targeted against any country. The Biden administration has not given any reaction regarding this test conducted two days ago. But the military analysts and media in the United States have recorded their responses.

The military analysts and media pointed out that China conducted this test after the United States and Russia extended the validity of New START by five years. Whereas, the US media are also claiming that the mid-course anti-ballistic missile system’s test poses a threat even to the US satellites, as the system capable of targeting intercontinental ballistic missiles can be used for destroying satellites. Before this, in 2018, China had tested a similar anti-ballistic missile system. Even that time, the United States had accused that China had tested an anti-satellite missile. But China had dismissed the accusations levelled against it.

While the tension with other neighbouring countries is increasing, other media are claiming that China is issuing a warning, with the test, to these countries. The Turkish media have openly linked this test with the tension reigning on the LAC in the Ladakh region.
