The leader of the ruling party, Maryam Aurangzeb, strongly criticized this judgement and levied an accusation that the mother-in-law of the Supreme Court judge is a member of Imran Khan’s party. Pakistan’s foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto has appealed to Imran Khan to ensure there is no further escalation of tensions.

Violence and vandalism, which went on till Thursday, stopped after the release of Imran Khan. However, it’s quite possible that a civil war may break out anytime soon in Pakistan. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has vowed to take strict action against the perpetrators of violence. Army Chief Asim Munir has also warned of identifying rioters for imposing control. Imran Khan and his associates seem willing to take on the Army Chief.

This is evident that army officials from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have refused to follow the army chief’s orders to act against the rioters. The officer in command has been dismissed. Hence, it reflects factionalism within Pakistan’s army.

It is claimed that Pakistan’s Navy Chief and Air Force Chief are also upset with General Munir. Therefore, Imran Khan and his supporters will attack General Munir from different fronts in the future. On the contrary, there are claims that some of the leaders of Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf party having links with foreign entities have played a hand in Imran Khan’s arrest.

There is chaos in Pakistan at the political and military level. Pakistan’s army looks fractionated. Analysts claim that fierce internal competition among military officers would be disastrous. This is a dangerous situation for Pakistan, and the citizens who are aware of this are planning to leave the country.
