US transferred seized Russian funds to Ukraine – Attorney General Merrick Garland

Washington/ Kyiv: After the Russia-Ukraine conflict began, the US and Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions on Russia. It also included actions to freeze and confiscate the assets of Russian entrepreneurs and citizens. The Ukrainian regime demanded that the seized assets and funds be given to them as compensation. This demand has been supported by the United States and the European Union, and the United States has transferred the seized Russian funds to Ukraine. American Attorney General Merrick Garland announced this.

Last year, the US seized the assets and funds of Russian businessman Konstantin Malofeev. The United States claimed that Malofiev provided funds to rebel groups in Crimea. In a statement issued during the operation, it was informed that funds worth millions of dollars in American banks were seized. The same funds have been transferred to the Government of Ukraine.

After the Russia-Ukraine conflict started, allies, including the West, expressed their intention to impose sanctions on Russia, cripple its economy and hamper the war effort. It also targeted the overseas assets and funds of Russian companies and entrepreneurs. The Russian Elites, Proxies and Oligarchs Task Force was also established for this campaign. The United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, France, Australia, Germany, Italy and the European Commission participate in this task force.

The task force’s main objective was to target those close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, including those who aided the Russian regime. Last year, almost 58 billion dollars worth of assets and funds of Russian companies and entrepreneurs were seized through this task force. It has come to light that this task force has now focused its attention on other countries that support Russia apart from Russian companies and entrepreneurs.
