Threats to the cyber sector, dangerous for national security, NSA Ajit Doval

New Delhi: National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval warned, ‘Digital revolution has started in the country. The government has started digital services on a huge scale. In this scenario, the importance of cyber security has increased further. Any threat in the cyber sector can have serious effects on the social, economic and national security.’ Doval underlined the importance of cyber security during his inaugural address at the National Cyber Exercises (NCX).

Moreover, the National Security Council secretariat, in collaboration with the Data Security Council and DRDO, has organised NCX, a training session in cyber security for 140 officials. The NSA underlined the importance of cyber security in precise words during his inaugural speech. Ajit Doval pointed out that securing the cyber sector is essential for social, economic and national security. Whereas, Lieutenant General Rajesh Pant described the detrimental effects of the threats in the cyber sector on the country’s economy.

Lieutenant General Pant pointed out that securing the cyber sector is mandatory for the security of the citizens, industries and the government. He also cited certain cyberattacks in the past. Lieutenant General Pant reminded that there had been a ransomware attack on Oil India Limited. He also apprised that trainee officials regarding the cyber wars being fought on the international level. Lieutenant General Pant added that the government is taking necessary decisions linked to cyber security and taking important steps in this matter.

Earlier, the first Indian Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, had warned the country that the cyber sector would be the next battlefield. Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Mukund Naravane also has time and again clarified the importance of cyber security. Therefore, it is being revealed that the country is very serious about cyber security. Hackers affiliated with the Chinese military are launching large scale attacks on India. Some time ago, it had also been revealed that these attacks are being repelled.

Against this background, India is working on cybersecurity-related policies and the work in this matter, which has been carried out for the last two years, will be completed in the near future. At the same time, it has also been revealed many times that India is signing agreements related to cyber security with its allies.
