Nigel-Farage_AFP-rt-570x320Sex attacks on women by the migrants swarming into Europe could be the nuclear bomb on the EU Referendum, claimed Nigel Farage, leader of the UKIP (the UK Independence Party), Britain. This comment has invited the wrath of the British political circles. It was only a few days ago that women reported sexual assaults at a music festival in Germany.

Speaking to the ‘Sunday Telegraph’, Nigel Farage, the leader of the UKIP mentioned the sex attacks on women, while discussing the ‘Brexit’ issue. Making an allusion to the Cologne incident, he said that sexual atrocities by migrants on European women will act like the nuclear bomb of the ‘Brexit’ issue. This was a major cultural issue, he claimed. Defending his comment he said that his words intended to express concern over Britain’s membership of the EU and over the security of women.

‘If migrants flocking to the EU openly get EU passports, they could enter Britain. In that case, there could be a repeat of Cologne-style attacks in Britain too. It all depends on whether the British people vote for Brexit or not. This, in any case is an issue of imortance’, Farage very firmly stated. Earlier, he had warned that British women risked atrocities and would not be safe, should Turkey join the EU.

Incidents of sexual assaults, rape and molestation by migrants are on the rise in many countries of the EU including Germany. In May, two women were raped by ten migrants in the German capital of Berlin. This incident that happened at a music programme, had rocked the world. Three men aged between 14 and 17 have been arrested and two of these have reportedly migrated to Germany from Turkey.

Last week, 26 women reported sexual abuse at a music festival in the city of Darmstadt, south of Frankfurt. The Frankfurt police report that three men aged between 28 and 31 have been arrested and all are Pakistani nationals. A few more men suspected to be involved in this crime, are still at large.

On New Year’s Eve last year, a total of 1049 incidents of molestation and sexual assaults on local women by Arab and North African migrants were reported which only indicates that in a country like Germany, the local security machinery fell short of effective control over the migrants. The refugee shelter in Calais, France had also made the local women insecure. The local women in Östersund, Sweden too had been warned against stepping out at night due to the incidents of sex attacks by migrants.
