Russia trying to destroy Starlink network, an internet service provider in Ukraine – US entrepreneur Elon Musk alleges

Washington/Moscow/Kyiv: US entrepreneur Elon Musk alleged that Russia is trying to destroy the Starlink network in Ukraine through cyberattacks, jamming and other activities. Musk’s SpaceX company is providing free satellite internet service to Ukraine. Russia claimed that this was being done under instructions from the US Department of Defence. Meanwhile, on Saturday night, Russia announced the launch of two satellites used for military operations.

Elon-MuskIn February, Russia attacked Ukraine. During this Russian military campaign, the Russian defence forces destroyed Ukraine’s satellite communication and internet-providing system. Therefore, the Ukrainian military does not have a separate satellite communication system. The US Department of Defence had instructed Musk to provide its Starlink network services to the Ukrainian army. For this, Musk has incurred an expense of more than eight million dollars so far.  

Moreover, Musk has not charged the Ukrainian military for Starlink. But a few days ago, Musk warned that providing free services to the Ukrainian army would not be possible. Although his company is making efforts to provide internet services, Musk has warned that the Starlink network in Ukraine will soon be destroyed due to increasing Russian attacks.  

The shutdown of the Starlink network is likely to have a significant impact on the capabilities of Ukraine’s defence forces. Russian parliamentarians have claimed that Ukraine will suffer a major setback even if Starlink is shut down.
