Washington/Moscow: Entrepreneur Elon Musk accused Russia of launching large scale cyberattacks on the Starlink network, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Ukraine. Ukraine had demanded ‘Satellite Internet’ from Musk following the Russian cyberattacks in February. Accordingly, Musk started providing internet services through the Starlink network. Before the conflict began, pro-Russian hacker groups had launched attacks on Ukraine’s Internet network. Anonymous, the world’s largest group of hackers, declared a cyberwar against Russia in retaliation. A group of Russian hackers called Killnet had launched counter-attacks against cyberattacks launched by Anonymous. Ukraine also called on hacker groups worldwide to form a front against Russia.

Russian attacks have severely damaged Ukraine’s telecommunications and communications systems. The Ukrainian government had requested Elon Musk to provide Starlink Network services to keep the country’s internet running smoothly. Following the request, Musk launched the Starlink Network for Ukraine in March. Accordingly, the Ukrainian government and people and the Ukrainian army were provided with Internet access. Russia has reacted sharply to the provision of internet access by Musk to Ukraine.
