Russia may demand compensation for Nord Stream pipeline explosions – Russian Foreign Ministry official

Nord StreamMoscow – A senior State Department official claimed that Russia may seek compensation for the Nord Stream oil pipeline explosions last year. At the same time, Dmitry Birichevsky warned that even if Western countries oppose, Russia will continuously raise the issue of independent and impartial investigation in this case at the international level. A few days ago, Seymour Hersh, a leading American journalist, made a sensational claim that the Biden administration ordered the blowing up the Nord Stream oil pipeline to shock Germany.

Moreover, Nord Stream is the main gas pipeline from Russia to Europe. Last year, the supply through this pipeline was stopped due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Russia had taken an aggressive stance that it would start supplies only if the European countries lifted the sanctions. Although the ‘Nord Stream 2’ fuel line was built and ready, the supply was not started due to the refusal of permission by the new German government.

Nord StreamEven when the fuel supply was stopped, in the last week of September 2022, a mysterious fuel leak was revealed from the ‘Nord Stream’ fuel pipeline built in Russia and European countries. NATO and the European Union blamed Russia for this leak. Russia accused the US of being behind this. Russia also demanded that if Europe decided to investigate the matter in depth, it should include the United States as a suspect. But the mystery surrounding the explosions increased as European countries rejected it.

Against this background, Pulitzer Prize-winning American journalist Seymour Hersh published an article on his website last month. The article was titled ‘How America Took Out the Nord Stream Pipeline’. In this, he blasted that US agencies blew up the ‘Nord Stream Pipeline’ with the help of Norway and other NATO countries. The Biden administration dismissed his claims, calling Hersh’s article ‘fiction.’ Based on Hersh’s article, Russia demanded to discuss it with the Security Council. Due to Hersh’s article, the ‘Nord Stream’ issue has come to the fore again, and accusations and counter-accusations are constantly being made in Russia and Western countries.
