Make indigenous toys reflecting Indian culture, appeals PM Narendra Modi

New Delhi: – Prime Minister, Narendra Modi appealed ‘Toys play an important role in shaping the minds of the children, well. Therefore, for all-round development of the students in the Anganwadi and schools, start using toys that associate with the Indian culture.’ The Prime Minister appealed to the factories, to produce the toys in India, under the Atmanirbhar Bharat scheme. The Prime Minister delivered a message that the youth of the country should take the initiative, in making these toys and promote ‘Vocal for Local’.

While addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister appealed to the manufacturers, to produce toys reflecting Indian culture. The Prime Minister exhorted “Toys are believed to be the symbol of Indian culture. Toys are very important for the children from Anganwadi and schools.’ The Prime Minister added that toys also represent the ‘EK Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India Superior India). Many artisans make wonderful toys. If they are given the right opportunity, toys can be produced on a mass scale in India.” Prime Minister said that the quality standards have to be maintained and expressed confidence that this will create a global market for Indian toys. The Prime Minister said that this would provide an impetus to the Make in India campaign. Prime Minister also said that the regions, where toys are produced with handicraft, can be promoted AS tourist attraction.   

Following the increase in tension with China, India has started taking the boycott of Chinese products very seriously. India has started moves to reduce Chinese investments in every sector and has not left the toy market out of this. A whopping 70% of the Indian toys are imported from China. India imported toys worth ₹40 billion from China, in the financial year 2019-20. But now India has started reducing its dependence on China for toys. Henceforth, they will be produced in India under the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign.   

Every year, on the occasion of Ganesh festival, Ganesh Idols are imported from China. Every year, China exports Ganesh idols worth ₹5 billion to India. But this year, the Indian people turned their backs on the Chinese Idols, to promote ‘Make in India’- this information was revealed by ‘Confederation of All India Traders’.
