New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Faceless Tax Scheme with an objective to eliminate corruption and compromises, in tax recoveries. The Prime Minister said that this system is being implemented to make the tax systems transparent and dynamic.
Prime Minister made three important announcements to make the tax system transparent. Faceless assessment, faceless appeal and taxpayer Charter facilities have been announced. The faceless system will ensure that neither the assessee nor the assessing office will be able to know the identity of the other. Therefore, no one will be able to influence the process. Bribes and other forms of corruption, for compromises, will be eliminated. The pressure on the tax departments also will reduce.
Faceless assessment and taxpayer Charter facilities have come into force with immediate effect. Whereas, faceless appeal facility will be activated on 25th September. The Prime Minister said that thousands of income tax employees are currently working hard, for this online assessment process. The government is making efforts for a Seamless, painless and faceless system. The Prime Minister said that the new facilities have been developed with that viewpoint.
The responsibilities of the taxpayer, as well as the assessing officer, will increase with this new system. The taxpayer is obliged to give complete and correct information to the income tax department. Whereas, the assessing official will be required to complete the assessments in time. The Prime Minister said that a provision of appeal, in case of an objection, has been made. Although the country’s population is over 1.3 billion, the number of taxpayers is a mere 15 million. Prime Minister pointed out that the number of taxpayers, in the country, is drastically low. There is a need to think over this. The Prime Minister said that those capable of paying taxes should discharge their responsibility.
