Will launch attacks on Lebanese airports if Iran supplies arms to Hezbollah

Tel Aviv: Israel’s airstrikes in Syria foiled the attempt to smuggle arms for Hezbollah across the Lebanese border. But Iran is using passenger planes to supply weapons to Hezbollah. Israel has warned that if Iran continues to arm Hezbollah through the air route, it will directly attack the airport in Beirut, Lebanon.

A Saudi Arabian news channel reported that Iran supplied weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon. The Saudi news channel said that the weapons stockpile was unloaded from Iran’s ‘Miraj Airlines’ passenger plane at Beirut-Rafic Hariri Airport. Lebanon’s Internal Security Minister Bassam Mawlawi denied the allegations made by the Saudi news channel. But Israel has taken this news seriously and issued this threat.

For this, Israel reminded of the action taken in Syria. Earlier, Israel had accused Iran of smuggling weapons to Hezbollah under the pretext of the Syrian civil war. Using the border with Iraq, Iran had stockpiled weapons at military bases in Syria. Israel attacked these bases before these weapons fell into the hands of Hezbollah from the Lebanese border. Israel claimed that Iran’s plot to arm Hezbollah through Syria had failed due to this action.

But if Iran is going to land planes directly in Lebanon and supply arms to Hezbollah, then like Syria, action will be taken in even in Lebanon. An Israeli diplomatic official warned that Iranian planes landing at Beirut’s airport would be targeted. London-based Arabic newspaper Asharq al-Awsat published the warning citing an Israeli official. Israel has previously accused Iran of supplying weapons to Hezbollah via passenger planes bound for Lebanon.

Moreover, Israeli media reported that Hezbollah had stockpiled weapons from Iran in an underground warehouse near Beirut airport to prevent them from being targeted by Israeli attacks. The Israeli military revealed information about these warehouses of Hezbollah through satellites. Israel accused Hezbollah of safeguarding itself by locating such warehouses near schools and places of worship in Beirut.

So far, Israel has refrained from airstrikes on the arsenals in Beirut. But if Iran uses passenger planes to arm Hezbollah, then Israel has threatened to target only these planes arriving at the airport in Beirut. If that happens, rockets from Hezbollah in Lebanon could rain down on Israel. Hezbollah had made such a threat a few months ago.
