Israel proposes land corridor with UAE, says Israeli Ambassador to UAE

Abu Dhabi: – After starting the air and marine transport with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Israel is looking at increasing trade with its new partner country. Eitan Na’eh, the Israeli Ambassador to UAE, said that Israel had prepared a plan for a land corridor to UAE for this purpose. If this could be done, the freight movement between the two countries will become very easy, and Eitan Na’eh claimed that the European and Asian countries would also get connected with this.

Last year, Israel and UAE signed the historic Abraham agreement with mediation from the then US President Donald Trump. The new era of cooperation between Israel and UAE has started after that. Under this cooperation, more than 125,000 Israeli tourists have visited UAE in the last three months. Both countries claimed that the numbers would increase once the Coronavirus threat is eliminated. Reports have been received that trade movements have also started between the two countries.

Currently, air and marine freight movement between UAE and Israel are permitted. The marine freight movement takes 16 days, and airfreight is not available daily. Therefore, the first Israeli Ambassador to UAE, Eitan Na’eh, said that the Land Corridor is an excellent alternative to ease the freight movement during an interview.

Na’eh claimed, ‘If this corridor is built for huge heavy vehicles, the time taken for the freight movement could be reduced to a mere three days. Also, UAE is to the east of the Arabic peninsula, whereas Israel is in west Asia, connecting to the Mediterranean region. Therefore, if this land corridor is made possible, this will become an enormous land and marine highway connecting the world. A huge market also will open up with the corridor.’

The Israeli Ambassador also pointed out that this is a significant opportunity to develop cooperation in infrastructure and technology sector between Israel and UAE.
