Iran sheltering Al Qaeda terrorists, alleges the US

Washington: – Iran is the biggest sponsor of terrorism. Iran is harbouring even Al Qaeda terrorists, along with Hezbollah and Hamas. The US state department, in its latest report, has accused Iran of training and funding these Al Qaeda terrorists to fight in the Afghanistan and Syrian conflicts. The report says that because of the harsh sanctions imposed by the United States against Iran, it was possible to rein in these terrorist activities of Iran. According to the reports, the sanction against Iran will continue.

The Iranian government has provided shelter to the prominent leaders of Al Qaeda. But Iran is not willing to accept that it is supporting Al Qaeda terrorists like the other terrorist organisations. The US state department in its report regarding terrorism and countries supporting terrorism has blamed that Iran is spreading terrorism in Afghanistan and Syria using these Al Qaeda operatives since 2009. The US state department has avoided naming the Al Qaeda terrorists. The United States has accused Iran of supporting Al Qaeda even in the past. But now the United States has published the links between Iran and Al Qaeda and has followed it up with harsher economic sanctions imposed against Iran.

The US state department has said in the report that Iran, the main sponsor of global terrorism, is destabilising Iraq, Syria and the entire Gulf region with the help of terrorist organisations like Hezbollah and Hamas. The concerned report also says that Iranian terrorist organisations, Revolutionary Guards Corps and Quds Forces, also contribute to these activities. The United States had not taken any major action against this Iranian sponsorship of terrorism. But the US state department claimed that the support provided by Iran to the terrorist organisations was cut off due to the harsh sanctions imposed by the United States against Iran in the last year. The report also claims that the action against IRGC and Quds Force also has severely jolted Iran.

Meanwhile, last year, the United States declared the IRGC and Quds Force as terrorist organisations. Thereafter, the United States delivered another major jolt to Iran by killing Qassem Soleimani, the Chief of the Quds Force, in an airstrike. At the same time, the United States also eliminated Hamza Bin Laden, the son of Al Qaeda founder Osama Bin Laden, in another airstrike.
