India’s neutral stand on Ukraine will remain unchanged: Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringla

New Delhi: – Although no country has openly criticised, displeasure is being expressed that India is unwilling to take a stand against Russia over the Russia-Ukraine war. The United States is recording its reactions against India in all possible ways. The US state department sarcastically commented that the United States does not share the same bond as Russia with India. But India has reiterated its previous stand and delivered a message that it is unwilling to leave its neutral stand.

The resolution had been moved in the UN Security Council against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine. India did not participate in the voting for this resolution. The United States did not directly react to the Indian absence but expressed displeasure. But Russia had appreciated the Indian stand saying that this is a balanced approach. Against this background, Indian Foreign Secretary Harshvardhan Shringla presented the Indian stand in the matter once again. Shringla pointed out that although India avoided voting in the UN Security council, remaining neutral, it has emphasised that violence will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

While saying that violence will not be tolerated, India has insisted that diplomatic negotiations are the only way to resolve the issue. Shringla said that the Indian stand remains the same even today. President Putin had a telephonic discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Cognisance of this was taken on the international level. The Indian Prime Minister announced Indian non-alliance by holding talks even with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Despite this, many have criticised India is not using its influence with Russia to save Ukraine. Some US Lawmakers of Indian origin had expressed regret that India has not played its role properly this time. But Foreign Secretary Shrigla countered the claim that India does not resolve the Ukraine problem. Shringla clarified that India is making efforts on the diplomatic level to resolve the issue.
