Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, United Nations, UN Security CouncilOn Friday, India had called an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council at the request of the Afghan government. India has taken over the presidency of the Security Council in August. The meeting on Afghanistan in the first week of this month is a big deal, Ambassador Tirumurti said. Stating that the meeting was critical and justified, Ambassador Tirumurti said that it made the member states more acutely aware of the dire situation in Afghanistan. In particular, the issue of violence in Afghanistan against children and women and minorities has come to the forefront more effectively, T. S. Tirumurti added.

At the meeting, the United States, which is withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, criticized the Taliban. Even if the Taliban took control of Afghanistan using military force, the international community would not recognize it. That is why the Taliban must listen to the international community, the United States said at a Security Council meeting. Ghulam Ishaqzai, Afghanistan’s ambassador to the United Nations, blamed Pakistan for the Taliban’s violence in Afghanistan and said it was evidence. The Taliban ambassador is raising money to fight in Afghanistan by crossing the border into Pakistan, while wounded Taliban terrorists are being treated in Pakistan, the Afghan ambassador pointed out. He said, ‘Pakistan’s action is a blatant violation of UN regulations.’

China, Pakistan’s closest ally, did not side with Pakistan at the Security Council meeting. Russia had also adopted a somewhat neutral policy in this regard. This has caused a lot of heartburn for Pakistan, so it has criticized the meeting. Pakistan, Afghanistan’s neighbour, was not invited to the forum, Pakistan said. Pakistan’s foreign ministry also accused that the meeting was being used for anti-Pakistan propaganda.

India has launched aggressive diplomatic moves against Pakistan on the Afghan issue. At the same time, Pakistan’s foreign policy seems to have failed miserably. Former Pakistani diplomats and journalists have criticized that it is a victory for India and the failure of Pakistan’s foreign policy. Even a close ally like China did not side with Pakistan in the Security Council. Former Pakistani diplomats and media outlets have expressed concern that India will further embarrass Pakistan on the issue of Afghanistan soon. So, the United States also will support India.
