France opposes investment agreement between EU and China

Paris/ Beijing: –  France has opposed the investment agreement, which was proposed to be signed between the European Union and China. It accused the Chinese communist regime of using the Uyghurs from Xinjiang province as slaves proposed to be signed between the European Union and China. The French Minister criticised China aggressively. He said that France will not come forward for investment in a country where its citizens are treated as bonded labour. It is being indicated that the proposed investment agreement between the European Union and China will fall through this French opposition. Since the last few years, China has consistently increased its investments in Europe and is trying to clear the obstacles in the process by signing this agreement. Although the European countries are interested in investing in China, they are facing obstacles too. Therefore, the European Union has taken the initiative to sign an investment agreement with China. But over the last few months, the relations between China and the European Union are undergoing massive changes.

Europe that avoided taking an open stand against China has started openly and aggressively targeting it on various issues. The French government raising the issue of atrocities against Uyghurs is a part of the same strategy change. Before this, French President Emmanuel Macron slammed China in the United Nations meeting, raising atrocities against the Uyghur Muslims in China. Macron lashed out at China, saying that the Fundamental Rights is not a western concept. Moreover, it is clearly mentioned in the United Nations constitution; all the member countries are fully aware of them. The United Nations should send a delegation to the Xinjiang province in China and get factual information regarding the situation there.

In 2018, one of the United Nations’ reports made a startling revelation that China has dumped a whopping 1.1 million Uyghurs in torture camps. After that, many reports detailing the atrocities against the Uyghur Muslims have been published over the last two years. Against the background of these reports, western countries started targeting China over the Uyghur issue. The United States has taken the lead in the matter. Besides, the United Kingdom and France also are supporting the United States.

Taking an aggressive stand on the Uyghurs issue, US President Donald Trump imposed harsh sanctions against imports from China. China is infuriated due to this stand adopted by the United States and the other countries and has started blaming the imperialistic and cold-war mindsets.
