China’s first amphibious assault ship catches fire, no casualties reported  

Beijing: China’s first Type 075 amphibious assault ship caught fire on Saturday, but no casualties were reported. However, the Type 075 warship has reportedly suffered losses. The Type 075 amphibious assault ship was to be inducted in the Chinese naval fleet in the next few days. The process has, however, been delayed because of the fire.

The Type 075 warship was ready for testing, but the ship has caught fire before it. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained. China has never willingly revealed any information regarding mishaps connected with its defence sector. Therefore, the cause of the fire may not find disclosure in the public domain.  

The Type 075 warship was under construction at the Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard in China. The design of Type 075 is based on the US warship 10 WASP. Fighter jets and helicopters can land simultaneously on the battleship. The Type 075 warship is said could play a crucial role in the Chinese defence sector.   

The US and China are having clashes between their navies as also their interests in the South China Sea, the East China Sea, along with the Asia Pacific and the Pacific waters. Many instances have surfaced of a faceoff between the navies of the two countries. Analysts all over the world fear that this situation could spark a conflict, likely culminating into a fierce war. China has made preparations for a possible conflict with the United States while also growing naval might tremendously for the purpose.  

The development of Type 075 warships was believed to be a part of the preparations against the United States. Even so, analysts say the Chinese naval strength has certain limitations and does not have the capability of challenging the US. The fire on Type 075 amphibious ship and China’s silence on the matter, underscore these claims.
