Washington/Beijing: Destroyer USS John Finn, a part of the Seventh Fleet of the US Navy, patrolled through the Taiwanese Strait on Wednesday. It has also been exposed that China sent its own warship to keep a watch on the US destroyer. Dang Shijun, the Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN, gave this information and accused that the United States is purposely increasing tension in the region. The US and foreign analysts criticise the new US President Joe Biden will take a noncommittal stand regarding China. Accusations are also being levelled that although the Biden administration officials are issuing warnings and threats to China, there will be no concrete action against China. Against this background, the US Destroyer patrolling in the Taiwanese Strait, under the Freedom of Navigation campaign, becomes significant.
This is the third time that the US navy has sent its warship to the marine region near Taiwan since Biden took over as the President. Earlier, in February, two destroyers, namely, USS John McCain and USS Curtis Wilber, had been sent to the Taiwanese Strait for patrolling. China had registered strong protests against these missions. On Wednesday, it has been exposed that following the US destroyer, China too sent its destroyer to the region.
Taiwan informed that while the US destroyer was patrolling in the Bashi Channel marine region, even the Chinese warship was in the same region. Taiwan military sources said that Chinese and US destroyers were sailing in the same marine region, in the same direction, for a few hours. The post of Dang Shijun, the Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN, endorsed the Taiwanese claim.
In his post, Shijun has said that the eastern command of the Chinese navy sent a warship to keep a watch on the movements of the US destroyer USS John Finn. At the same time, he also levelled an accusation that the United States is creating tension in this region and disturbing the region’s peace and stability. Meanwhile, China also has given an aggressive reaction against the mission of the US destroyer. China warned that all the Chinese soldiers are ready to retaliate against any threat or provocation. The military units in the marine regions have been placed on high-alert.
