China, US, cyber attacks, Trump administration, NSAFormer National Security Advisor Matthew Pottinger recently appeared for a hearing before the US Congress. During the hearing, he drew attention to how the Chinese regime is using cyberattacks. Pottinger alleged, ‘The speciality of the Left Leninist regime is to collect people’s information and make a dossier. But using digital networks like 5G technology, China has taken this to a more serious level. The ruling Chinese communist regime has created dossiers of billions of foreign nationals around the world. It is used to influence, target, oppress, blackmail, insult and discriminate, as well as to win.’

The former US NSA warned, ‘The Chinese regime has acquired a vast amount of sensitive information to create dossiers for every citizen of the United States. The Chinese regime has not spared even the children in the United States. This is justified by the communist regime’s policy of political warfare.’ Pottinger’s remarks drew a backlash from the Chinese media. Chinese official mouthpiece, the Global Times, said Pottinger’s remarks were part of a Cold War mentality. At the same time, it has been claimed that the allegations made against the Chinese regime are made by the United States against other countries in the world.

China, US, cyber attacks, Trump administration, NSAFormer US President Donald Trump had launched an aggressive campaign against China on several issues. Although the Biden administration has reduced the intensity, the pressure from the opposition and the American people has forced the Biden administration to maintain Trump’s aggressive anti-China policies on several issues. The issue of cyberattacks is one of them. Last month, the Biden administration blamed China for the cyberattack on the Microsoft Exchange Server. US agencies have also claimed that hackers, backed by the ruling Chinese regime, have launched cyberattacks on US fuel pipelines.

In such a scenario, leaders and officials, who have played critical roles in the Trump administration, are mounting pressure by making serious allegations against China and the Biden administration. A few days ago, Nikki Haley, a former US ambassador to the United Nations, claimed that China no longer needed to launch cyberattacks on the United States. Haley had criticised that the Biden administration was providing China with the information it needed.
