US deploys F-35 jets in South Korea

Washington/Seoul: Six Stealth F-35 fighter jets of the US air force have reached South Korea. The deployment of the jets is for joint military exercises with South Korea. However, international analysts suggest that this deployment is in response to the missile tests conducted by North Korea over the last six months.

US deploys F-35 jets in South KoreaThe United States decided to deploy F-35 jets at the request of newly elected South Korean President Yoon Seok-Youl. A joint military exercise is planned between the United States and South Korea soon after the RIMPAC war exercises held in Hawaii, which has the participation of 25 countries. This is the first major joint war exercise between the United States and South Korea in the last few years. South Korean President Yoon Seok-Youl is keen on increasing defence cooperation with the United States. He had proposed to exhibit the US and South Korean military strength in the Korean peninsula.

Six F-35 jets of the US Air Force reached South Korea on Monday for joint military exercises. The South Korean defence ministry informed that these fighter jets would remain in South Korea for the next ten days. Meanwhile, this is the first instance of the United States deploying F-35 fighter jets in a foreign country. Some analysts in the United States claim that the deployment of super-advanced F-35 stealth fighter jets in South Korea is more of a warning for China than in response to the challenge posed by North Korea.
