Turkey closes its airspace for Russian aircraft

Istanbul: Turkey has closed its airspace for Russian passenger and military airplanes flying to Syria. Turkey clarified that this ban on Russian planes would be in place for the next three months. Therefore, the Russian airplanes flying to Syria will have to take a detour around Azerbaijan to reach Syria. This could provoke a strong reaction from Russia.

Turkey has allowed Russia to continue using the airspace until April. Local media said that as per an agreement signed long ago, Russia would not be able to use the Turkish airspace from April.

But one of the news channels published some fresh information quoting Foreign Minister Cavusoglu. The news channel claimed that Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu had clarified that the Russian airplanes would be banned from using Turkish airspace during a meeting with Russia. The Turkish Foreign Minister did not specify a reason for the ban. But is claimed that the Turkish decision has the background of the Ukraine war.

It is being accused that the armed rebels and terrorists from Syrian are fighting the war in Ukraine. Reports of Turkey supporting Syrian and Libyan terrorist groups fighting the war against Russia have been published. Western media are accusing the Assad government in Syria and the Iran supporter rebels of participating in the Ukraine war from the Russian side. Against this background, international media are claiming that this Turkish decision is to stop the passage of the Syrian groups fighting against it to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Turkey had created a facade that adopted a nonaligned stand in the Ukraine war. But it has been exposed that the Ukrainian military has Turkish drones. Turkey also closed the Bosporus Gulf to corner Russian warships. After the decision to ban Russian airplanes from using its airspace, Turkey seems to have decided to take a stand against Russia in the Ukraine war openly.
