Donald-TrumpThe attack on Saturday in Kabul, is the second serious attack in the past week. Terrorists had attacked a five-star hotel in Kabul on 20th January killing 40 people out of which 14were foreign nationals. This was followed by the suicide attack on Saturday in which a terrorist had used an ambulance for the attack killing 103 people. Taliban has claimed responsibility for this attack. This elicited strong responses from all over the world. Afghanistani forces have taken Pakistan severely to task after these attacks. They claim that the terrorists of the Haqqani Network, which is a subgroup of the Taliban, are being sheltered and fostered by Pakistan.

American President Donald Trump has taken a grim view of this attack in Kabul. “We will never let Taliban, who have brought about this attack, win”, he said. He added that it was high time for all nations to take some decisive action against Taliban, its terrorists and their supporters. Although not explicitly stated, it is understood that this is a warning to Pakistan who continues to foster terrorism. “All nations who hail the peace-keeping operations in Afghanistan need to take “decisive action” against the Taliban,” said Rex Tillerson, Secretary of State, United States of America.

He further added that there would be zero tolerance for those who have supported and fostered terrorists. Thus, there are strong indications that the US might soon initiate harsher action against Pakistan. Defence Minister of Pakistan Khurram Dastgir has provided an explanation, in view of these allegations from Afghanistan and the United States. He alleged that US was simply passing on the blame to Pakistan, of their own failures in Afghanistan. Afghanistan and Pakistan share a border of approximately 2600 miles. He said that Pakistan is trying to reply to these allegations of terrorism by erecting a fence across the length of this border.
