Tehrik threatens massive bloodshed in Pakistan

Kabul/Islamabad: Tehrik-i-Taliban had threatened to perpetrate massive bloodshed in Pakistan if their demands were not met. The first Tehrik demand is implementing their own laws in the Pakistani territory under their domination near the Afghan border. Tehrik is also persistent about demanding that the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) merger with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province be scrapped. According to the Pakistan government, these demands cannot be accepted as they challenge the Pakistani parliament. But following the threat issued by Tehrik, the Pakistan parliament has awarded all the rights of negotiations to the Pakistan military.

Tehrik has demanded separating Pashtun-dominated north and south Waziristan, Kurram, Orakzai and Khyber regions from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Tehrik has also ordered that the Pakistani laws will not be applicable in these regions, and no official from the Pakistan military or any other security agency will carry out armed patrolling in this region.

Faiz Hameed, the former Chief of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and the current chief of Peshawar Military Command, led the negotiations with Tehrik. General Hameed failed in the negotiations with Tehrik as a representative of the Pakistan government. Tehrik became aggressive after this and threatened Pakistan. It has threatened massive bloodshed in Pakistan if the demands were not met.

The concerned Pakistan government has permitted the Pakistan military to negotiate with Tehrik. Accordingly, some senior Pakistan military officials will be talking with Tehrik. Terrorists launched a suicide attack on a vehicle of the patrol party of the Pakistan military, and claims are being made that there were many casualties in the attack. There has been a significant increase in the activities of Tehrik since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan last year.
