Tehreek poses serious threat to Pakistan security, warns security council committee

Islamabad: The ceasefire between Tehrik-i-Taliban and Pakistan is coming to an end on 30th May. Before this, the UN Security Council published a report sending chills down Pakistan’s spine. The reports warn that Tehrik poses a serious threat to Pakistani security. The report also notes that even if Tehrik agrees to a ceasefire with Pakistan, it will not be a long one. While the internal systems are collapsing because of the conflict between the government and the opposition, the threat of the activities of a dangerous terrorist organisation like Tehrik could devastate Pakistan.

Tehreek poses serious threat to Pakistan security, warns security council committeeThe 1988 Taliban Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council presented its annual report. The fundamental issue of the report is the connections of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan with terrorist organisations like Al-Qaeda and IS. The report has a special mention of the terrorist organisation Tehrik-i-Taliban operational in the border regions of Pakistan. This is a separate Taliban group, and this organisation is responsible for sabotage in Pakistan. The Tehrik terrorists have been targeting the Pakistani military, paramilitary forces, and police for many years. The report warns that these Tehrik activities will continue even in the future.

Tehrik has carried out 46 attacks this year, and most of them targeted the Pakistani security forces. Seventy-nine people have been killed in these attacks. These attacks seem to have increased since the Taliban took over Afghanistan. Against this background, the Pakistan military recently held talks with Tehrik leaders and succeeded in negotiating a ceasefire till 30th May. Despite this, the Pakistan military has concluded that the Tehrik demands are not acceptable.

Tehreek poses serious threat to Pakistan security, warns security council committeeTehrik has demanded that the Pakistan military should withdraw from its territory. It has also demanded that Pakistan took the decision to join the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions be reversed, separating the two areas. Tehrik has also demanded that the Pakistani legal systems are not applicable in the areas under its influence and that a separate system be established.

Pakistan can’t accept these demands. Therefore, the spate of dangerous terrorist activities by Tehrik could start once again after the end of the ceasefire on 30th May. Now, the 1988 Taliban Sanctions Committee has also warned of the serious threat posed by Tehrik to Pakistan’s security. Therefore, there is a strong possibility of Pakistan becoming unstable and signs that Pakistan will have to suffer dire consequences are becoming apparent.
