Taliban gains control over important post on Afghan-Iran border

Kabul – The Taliban, who is on a spree of acquiring important cities and districts in Afghanistan, has gained control of a crucial security post on the Afghanistan-Iran border. The trade movement between Iran and Afghanistan passes through this security post. This is claimed to be a major success for the Taliban. A few hours ago, an important meeting was held between the Afghan government and the Taliban representatives. After that, the Taliban acquired control over the border security post.

Afghanistan, TalibanOn Thursday evening, Taliban terrorists launched attacks at Islam Qala in the Herat province in western Afghanistan and took control of the customs department. The videos of this Taliban action were making rounds on social media. Sources informed that the Afghan officials and soldiers from the region escaped to Iran following the Taliban attack. Officials from the Afghan government also accepted that the Taliban had taken control of these posts.

Afghanistan, TalibanTaliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid gave the information regarding the action on Friday. Mujahid announced that the Taliban had taken over the security post at Islam Qala. He said that the security post and the operations here would be started from Friday itself. Last year, Iran had exported goods worth USD 2 billion to Afghanistan in the previous year. Most of these goods had passed through the Dogharoun-Islam Qala regions. Therefore, it is being claimed that the Taliban has taken over an important post with respect to the Iran-Afghanistan trade.

These include Ghagchi in Kunar province near Pakistan, Wakhan in the Badakhshan province near China, Shir Khan Bandar in the Kunduz province near Tajikistan and Muqur in Baghdis province near Turkmenistan. Whereas, on Thursday, the Taliban forged ahead even in the Herat province near the Iran border.

Meanwhile, Iran is trying to establish a peace dialogue between the Ashraf Ghani government in Afghanistan and the Taliban. Against this background, two days ago, an important meeting was held between the Afghan government and the Taliban representatives in Tehran. Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif mediated for the meeting. After that, the Taliban launched the attack and took control of the security post.
