Taliban did not keep promise of all-inclusive government, blames EU

Brussels/Washington: The European Union (EU) has blamed the Taliban regime for failing to deliver its promises to form an all-inclusive government in Afghanistan. China has welcomed the government; it said that the era of anarchy has come to an end. The United States has so far refused to recognise the Taliban. There are indications that international recognition for the Taliban-led interim government, which includes notorious terrorists is difficult.

Taliban, China, Afghanistan, European UnionOn Tuesday, the Taliban announced the formation of a new government in Afghanistan. This includes international terrorists Sirajuddin Haqqani, Mullah Hassan Akhund, Mullah Baradar and Mullah Yakub. But contrary to what the Taliban had said earlier, not all groups, minorities and women in Afghanistan, have been included in government. The reaction of the European Union shows that the Western countries have taken serious cognisance of this.

‘After analysing the names announced by the Taliban, this government does not appear to be all-inclusive. It does not represent the religious, as well as ethnic diversity, of Afghanistan. The European Union has blamed the Taliban for failing to deliver on its promises made in recent weeks. The Union had mentioned five conditions in the process of establishing relations with the Taliban. The key condition was to form an all-inclusive government, a Union spokesperson said.

The Union’s response indicates that European countries will not rush to recognise the Taliban government. On the other hand, China has welcomed the formation of a Taliban government. It reacted by saying that the Taliban’s announcement of a new government has ended the era of anarchy. This is an essential step in rebuilding Afghanistan and establishing law and order, a Chinese spokesman said. Besides, he also said the Taliban’s announcement was important to China.

US President Joe Biden has said that although welcomed by China, relations between China and the Taliban could be strained. At the same time, he claimed that China would try to find a way out. Biden indicated that China, Pakistan, Russia, and Iran would also try to compromise with the Taliban. Meanwhile, it has been reported that a meeting of key countries was held on Wednesday at the initiative of the United States and Germany on the issue of the Taliban regime.
