According to the information provided by Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC), Matsu Island’s internet service was completely severed a few weeks ago. The submarine internet cables of Matsu Island, at some distance from China, had been found cut. Taiwan’s government avoided directly accusing China of this, but Taiwan’s communication committee expressed strong suspicion that Chinese ships navigating near the island would be the cause for this.

It was not the only incident; a similar incident happened on February 8. Taiwan’s communication committee recalled that a Chinese merchant ship had cut an internet cable. Therefore, Taiwan suspected Chinese ships were responsible for the internet blackout on Matsu Island. Due to this, the communication system on Matsu Island got disrupted, and the administrative authorities could not contact Taiwan. Besides, Taiwanese analysts have been claiming this was an attack.

Taiwan’s submarine internet cables have been suspiciously cut 20 times in the past five years. In addition, there were allegations that China was behind this.
