South Korea demands US nuke deployment - local newspaper reports -

Seoul: South Korea is preparing for a nuclear partnership with the United States, underlining the threat posed by North Korea. Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo claimed that South Korea could demand the deployment of a gigantic aircraft carrier or a nuclear submarine from the United States. It is claimed that this South Korean demand may become an invitation to aggressive action by North Korea. Analysts are pointing out that this assumption is based on the fact that North Korea started the spate of missile tests only after the deployment of the US warship in Seoul.

President Yoon Suk-yeol has taken aggressive military decisions since he took over the reins of South Korea. Under this, the US military was invited for a joint war exercise for the first time in five years. Only last week, the South Korean navy held the largest-ever joint war exercises in this sector with the US aircraft carrier. Reports of South Korea establishing fresh military cooperation with Japan are also being received.

The Korean newspaper has said that South Korea will be establishing nuclear partnerships with the United States as a part of the aggressive policies of President Yoon Suk-yeol. A South Korean official informed that if North Korea conducted the seventh nuclear test, it could threaten South Korean security. Taking this into account, South Korea is discussing nuclear deployment with the United States.’

Under this, a nuclear-powered US aircraft carrier will be deployed in South Korea, just like Japan. The concerned official said discussions are also being held for deploying a nuclear-powered submarine in South Korea. North Korea has already expressed strong opposition to the US military deployment in South Korea. Therefore, military analysts are claiming that in this scenario, there can be a strong reaction from North Korea if President Yoon Suk-yeol signs the deal to deploy US warships and submarines.
