Israel launches airstrikes in Gaza following rocket attacks by Hamas -

Jerusalem: Hamas, a terrorist organisation in the Gaza Strip, launched rocket attacks on Israel on Saturday. Israel carried out retaliatory airstrikes that targeted key Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip. There are reports that Hamas’ grip on the Palestinians in Gaza is loosening. Therefore, it is claimed that Hamas is trying to increase its influence by launching attacks on Israel. But the Israeli air strike has made it clear again that the Gaza Strip has to bear the negative consequences.

Last week, two routes used to enter into Jerusalem were bombed. In this, there were reports that at least seven suspects were detained in an operation by Israel’s security agencies after the death of its citizens. At least 10 Palestinians are claimed to have been killed in this week-long operation.

European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell expressed deep concern over this action in the West Bank. He also demanded an inquiry into the actions of the Israeli security forces. Besides, within 24 hours, Hamas in Gaza launched rocket attacks into Israel.

Rockets hit Nahal Oz and Kfar Azza in southern Israel on Saturday evening. Israeli warplanes then carried out airstrikes on two sites in Gaza, a Hamas rocket manufacturing factory and an underground tunnel, at 1 am. The Israeli army claimed that the rocket manufacturing factory was destroyed. Hamas’ Qassem Brigades acknowledged the Israeli airstrikes. Qassem Brigade has also claimed that they launched airstrikes to shoot down Israeli planes.

Israel has not suffered any casualties in rocket attacks from Gaza. But new information is surfacing on this occasion. 15 years have passed since Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip. The Council on International Relations-CIR claimed that 12 per cent of the Palestinians had left the territory since then. But it is claimed that the number of Palestinians displaced from Gaza is much greater than the organisation’s claims.

There are reports that Islamic Jihad is gaining more influence than Hamas in Gaza and the West Bank. Disturbed by this, Hamas launched rocket attacks on Israel, citing Israeli security forces’ actions in the West Bank. Hamas seems to be continually carrying out these activities to increase its dominance in the Gaza Strip. But claims are made that the Palestinian people are not responding to Hamas as before. In this, Hamas has to compete with Islamic Jihad and other Palestinian organisations and analysts say that Hamas has fallen behind. In such a situation, the media in Israel are expressing concern that Hamas will launch massive attacks on Israel to establish its supremacy.
