Iran-Saudi cooperation comes as a blow to US, UK influence in Middle East - Russian spy chief claims

Moscow/Tehran – Iran and Saudi Arabia have resolved decades of differences and established cordial relations. This has seriously shaken the influence of the United States and the UK in the Middle East, which has been consistent for the last several years, claimed Sergei Naryshkin, the head of the Russian intelligence service. However, the US and the UK are trying to disrupt this cooperation, Russian spy chief Naryshkin alleged. Also, the head of Russian intelligence suggested that these two Western countries should stay away from Iran and Saudi.

In March, an agreement was reached between Iran and Saudi Arabia to improve cooperation. After that, the foreign ministers of both countries announced to take this forward. Iran’s embassy in Saudi Arabia opened last week. Furthermore, a meeting between Saudi King Salman and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei is also expected to happen soon.

However, Sergei Naryshkin, the head of Russia’s foreign intelligence service (SVR), accused the US and Britain of trying to disrupt this cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Due to this cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the plans of the US and the UK for the Middle East have been shaken. Naryshkin claimed that efforts of the Western countries to destabilize Iran have failed.

The Russian spy chief slammed the US and UK. ‘The US and the UK are trying to disrupt this cooperation. But these two countries should stay away from Iran and Saudi Arabia,’ Russian spy chief Naryshkin said. Also, the head of the Russian intelligence system went on to warn them and said, ‘The United States and the UK should pay attention to the civil war in their own country or go to hell.’
