Indian Army preparing to set up independent Artillery Brigade for Mountain Strike Corps

New Delhi: – Moves have been initiated to build an independent Artillery Brigade for Mountain Strike Corps, the elite unit of the Indian Army, specially trained for warfare in the treacherous mountain terrain. These moves are considered necessary against the background of the rising tension with China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. India has declared that the Mountain Strike Corps have been activated during the HimVijay exercises held during the last few years.

India has decided to increase its defence preparedness to counter these Chinese activities, and aggressive steps are being taken in that direction. Creation of Mountain Strike Corps is a part of the same process, and its preparedness is being increased to counter enemies on both China and Pakistan fronts. Currently, only one division is active as the Mountain Strike Corps. Although there is an Artillery Brigade in this division, there is no independent Artillery Brigade in the Mountain Strike Corps. Therefore, moves for a separate Artillery Brigade for the Mountain Strike Corps have been started since the last few days. Sources informed that this Brigade would have artillery guns including Ultra-Light Howitzers. Military officials announced that the Artillery Brigade, meaning a unit striking the enemy using ultramodern artillery, becomes vital for retaliation against the enemy in the mountain regions. Therefore, it is also being said that expeditious moves will be made to create the Artillery Brigade for the Mountain Strike Corps. The activities to develop integrated battle groups in the Mountain Strike Corps also are underway.
