India will decide cautiously regarding trade with China, indicates Foreign Secretary Shringla

New Delhi: – The 14th round of talks between Indian and Chinese military officials to ease tensions over the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh will begin soon. Before that, China had demanded that India normalize trade relations. Although India is thinking about this, India has to make sure that it does not backfire. The government is considering it from all sides, informed Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Sringala.

The foreign secretary said that India is considering cooperating with China on the supply chain, investment cooperation, and technology fronts. However, the Foreign Secretary reminded that India had maintained trade cooperation with China despite tensions over the LAC.

However, India had to bear the brunt of it. The foreign secretary has indicated that India will have to be careful that this does not happen in the current times.

China’s actions on the LAC in Ladakh were not conducive to bilateral relations. This has not made it easy in any way for India to normalize relations with China, said Harsh Vardhan Sringala, adding that China was responsible for the situation. Therefore, in deciding trade with China, he added that India has to consider its broader strategic and security interests. In taking decisions in this regard, he added that India needs to think carefully about its economic development and its partnership with other countries.

Meanwhile, before the 14th round of talks between India and China to reduce tensions over the Ladakh LAC, India is making China aware of the reality. Indian leaders and diplomats have warned China that China cannot expect trade cooperation from India while maintaining border tensions. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar criticized China for losing the Indian trust, over the last few decades, due to its actions on the LAC in Ladakh.
