India and Japan hold 2Plus2 Dialogue

Tokyo: By saying that while a very complex situation has arisen at the international level, the second ‘Two Plus Two’ discussion is going on between India and Japan, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted the importance of cooperation between the two countries. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has emphasised the need to expand defence cooperation between India and Japan. In the wake of the imbalance created by hegemonic Chinese activities, the ‘Two Plus Two’ talks conveyed the message that India and Japan are strengthening their cooperation on all fronts.

India and Japan hold Two-Plus-Two talksMoreover, Two Plus Two talks between Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Japanese Defence Minister Yasukazu Hamada and External Affairs Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi began on Thursday. This is the second Two Plus Two talks between the two countries. With these talks, India’s strategic cooperation with Japan seems to be reaching new heights. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted the importance of cooperation between the two democratic countries. India and Japan respect international norms and advocate a rules-based global order. Also, both countries are ensuring the development of the global economy. Jaishankar further said that the stand of both the countries toward a free and open Indo-Pacific region is the same.

On this occasion, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reminded that India and Japan are completing 70 years of diplomatic relations. The defence minister presented the Indian position in such indicative words that cooperation between India and Japan, both democratic countries in Asia, is essential for peace and prosperity in the Pacific Ocean. Rajnath Singh asserted the need to strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries. Before the said discussion, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had also said in discussion with the Japanese Defence Minister Yasukazu Hamada that there is a need to conduct more joint military exercises between India and Japan. According to this, the scope of the war exercises of India and Japan will be increased and this will also include the exercises of the air forces of both countries.

Furthermore, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also hoped that India and Japan should increase cooperation in the field of defence equipment manufacture and technology. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Japanese Defence Minister Yasukazu Hamada expressed their determination further to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries. Meanwhile, aggressive Chinese activities in the Gulf of Taiwan are increasing, which greatly impacts Japanese security. Because of this, Japan has adopted a policy of assisting Taiwan. Japan has warned that a Chinese attack on Taiwan will be considered an attack on Japan. In such a situation, India’s announcement to strengthen its strategic cooperation with Japan is a warning to China by both countries.

After the Coronavirus pandemic, the production chain in China, which has emerged as the manufacturing hub of the world, was adversely affected. Due to disruption in the supply chain, the world faced a massive crisis. Taking serious cognisance of it, India and Japan expressed their resolve to take steps to build a stronger global supply chain. It seems to have been reflected in this Two Plus Two discussion held in Tokyo, the capital of Japan.
