Dubai: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has signed an agreement with France to purchase 80 rafale planes. This agreement was signed during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to the UAE. This deal, which costs nearly $18 billion is the biggest ever in the French history, revealed French defence ministry.
UAE will purchase F-4 advanced generation of Rafale jets from France. Moreover, UAE would be the first nation to purchase F-4 planes. Besides, French Defence Minister Florence Parly emphasised that this deal is important for regional stability. French analysts have also asserted that this deal would raise defence capabilities of the UAE.
Over several years, UAE and France have established a great defence cooperation. In 2009, France had built its naval base in UAE. France has deployed its warships, fighter jets and fleet of soldiers at this base in UAE. In 2017, French President Macron visited UAE after assuming leadership.
The new defence deal is considered as President Macron’s efforts to strengthen relations with the Middle Eastern nations. Furthermore, President Macron would visit Saudi Arabia after UAE.
