Extremists will blow France into pieces, former military generals warn President Macron

Paris: – Retired officials of the rank of Generals from the French military issued a stern warning to President Macron that a severe crisis is staring France in its face. The challenges posed by extremists will disintegrate France. Although we are retired, we cannot sit quiet, when Frafacescing a threat of civil war. These former military officials published a letter warning that the French government is not taking adequate steps to save the country. The former officials also clarified that they would support the government of President Macron if it is willing to take the right decisions for the security of France. The rightist-French leader Marine Le Pen has welcomed the letter; French Defence Minister Florence Parly severely criticised it.

france-extremistsThe rightist leaders and neutral analysts have started frankly opining that the increasing influence of extremists in France is a major cause for concern. The rightist groups are making severe criticism of the Macron government to ignore the issue for a long time and not take any firm decisions against it. In contrast, the liberal groups in France have adopted an exactly opposite stand. As per the liberals, the French liberal policies face a threat from President Macron. In such a scenario, former French military officials have written a letter to French President Macron and published it.   

Nearly 20 officials of retired General rank in the French military have signed the letter. At the same time, more than 1,000 officials retired in lower ranks also have signed the letter. Therefore, the letter has become a point of discussion in France. The letter demands that extremism is flourishing in France and the constitution is being challenged in the suburbs in the country. Its venom is spreading in France and if we keep quiet, the situation will fester. Moreover, there will be an explosion, disintegrating France. As former soldiers of this country, we cannot keep quiet while the country is facing this crisis. If the government cannot handle the security of the country, let the military take over. 

The former military officials have also clarified in the letter that if the Macron government is prepared to initiate appropriate steps for national security, they are willing to cooperate fully. French rightist leader Marine Le Pen welcomed the letter saying that she can understand the concerns expressed by the former military officials. Marine Le Pen appealed that these former military officials should participate in the fight initiated by her for the country.   

Marine Le Pen has been consistently warning that extremism is a significant threat to France. Against this background, the concerns expressed by the former military officials are relevant to her political stand. But French Defence Minister, Florence Parly, has severely criticised the stand taken by Marine Le Pen. These retired officials are not a part of the French military anymore. Therefore, the thoughts expressed in the letter are limited only to them. Military of any country operates on the principles of neutrality and dedication. The French Foreign Minister criticised that the statements made by Marine Le Pen is irresponsible and they only go to show that she does not understand anything concerning the military.
