US to deliver long-range ATACMS missile to Ukraine

Washington/Kyiv – The United States has indicated providing Ukraine with long-range missiles. The media has reported that US President Joe Biden made this promise during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Nonetheless, Russia has warned earlier that delivering long-range missiles to Ukraine will have serious consequences.

Moreover, Ukraine had cited a lack of advanced weapons for the failure of its counter-offensive against Russia. Ukrainian President Zelensky had consistently said that advanced fighter jets and missiles were necessary for the conflict against Russia. However, the US had refused to supply the long-range missiles, saying it would provoke Russia.

However, in the last few days, the US is said to have changed its policy after considering the missile attacks on Russian bases and its successes. Also, President Biden had given distinct indications of this during Zelensky’s visit to the US. In addition, the US media reported that Biden had promised that the US Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) would reach Ukraine in the next few weeks.

Additionally, sources have shared that ATACMS are long-range ballistic missiles ranging from 165 to 300 km. Rocket systems such as HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) and MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) can launch this missile. Europe’s Greece, Romania, and Poland have these missiles apart from the US.

Furthermore, some media claimed this missile has already entered Ukraine, although negotiations for providing ATACMS are underway. According to Russia’s claim, these missiles have been deployed at the Ukrainian base in Mykolaiv province.
